Ali, Zahira & family

Ali, Zahira and their family are new partners journeying to homeownership with Lakeshore Habitat. As refugees from Afghanistan, they came here seeking a better life for their children, including a safe and affordable place to call home. Their current housing situation is small, expensive and unsafe, without an option to play outside, and their daughter often asks, “Why don’t we have our own house? Why are we always moving from place to place?” Ali and Zahira can’t wait to have a home where their son can play football with other neighbor kids, where their family can enjoy picnics with other neighbors and where the kids have room to play comfortably inside.

Investing time and energy into their home as it’s built, they will become equipped with the resources and knowledge they need as new homeowners. Just as important, they will also be building community with other future Vista Green homeowners – their future neighbors. Ali and Zahira share, “Owning our home is a family dream. And this home means peace of mind and a bright future for our children, and us.”
