Alicia, David & family

“Home is where we’re all together, especially under our own roof.” - Alicia

Meet Alicia, David, and their three boys. Currently, all five of them live in a small apartment. After having their youngest son, they knew they needed more space. “We wanted space for the boys to play,” they shared. They tried to purchase a home the traditional way, but their pre-approval amount wouldn’t allow them to buy a house big enough for the 5 of them. “Everything is so expensive right now, it’s hard for everyone,” David shared.

They heard about Lakeshore Habitat’s Homeownership Program from a coworker who was familiar with the organization, as well as a friend who is a current Lakeshore Habitat homeowner. Alicia shares, “We know how good it’s been for [our friend] and her family and how they worry less about finances, so we thought we might as well try to get approved.”

David shares, “We wanted to see if we could get an opportunity – both to get a home and to learn something in the process, and then to grow from there.”

They decided to apply and anxiously waited to hear if they would be approved. Alicia received the call that they would be homeowners while she was at work at West Michigan Community Bank. “Everyone in the branch heard the news because I was yelling ‘oh my gosh!’ and they all gave me hugs and celebrated with me, that was special.”

“To get into a program like this, it’s a dream come true. Especially for a young family like us. It’s a giant weight off my shoulders,” shares David.  “When I found out, I was just ecstatic. Home is a place where I can build my family up – watch them grow, help them experience the world, coach them through things. “

Alicia and David are most excited to create a playroom for their boys and to make the space their own. We are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with their family to help them purchase a home. Congratulations, Alicia & David!
